Membership in the Wickford Art Association, a 400 member organization, is open to anyone interested in the arts and/or actively engaged in any of the accepted branches of the fine arts (painting, printmaking, sculpture, and photography). Upon payment of dues*, a General Membership (GM) attained. A General Member is eligible to petition to become an Artist Member (AM) 6 months after joining the Association. Benefits of both General Membership and Artist Membership are detailed below: General Members:
Note, a General Member does not qualify for the Wickford Art Festival discount and is not eligible to have a private showing at the gallery. Artist Members:
To attain artist membership a general member must provide five strictly original and recent works of art in the media that create a majority of the artist's body of work. All pieces must be framed and professionally presented, for judgment by the Artist Membership Jury (three artist members, selected each month based on the media and content being juried.) Slides/photographs are not accepted. All work submitted for jury should be original, not created as a student, or a copy of another artist's work. If photo references are used, they should be photos that were created by the artist, not copyrighted photos by another person. Click here to see an example of the juror's form. A total judging score of 60-75 points is needed to earn artist membership status. All artists who are not selected for artist membership will receive a letter which includes the judges comments and suggestions for improvement. The artist may reapply after 6 months, with a new body of work. It is suggested that an artist contemplating submission for artist membership attend one or two Open Critique Nights to answer any questions on the strength of their work to be judged. |
