AWARDS

First Place
Craig Masten
2A5W5779.jpg (263306 bytes)
Mimi's Cove
watercolor

"Craig Masten’s command of his medium is the real treasure in Mimi’s Cove. There’s the joke about one who’s voice is so beguiling that he could make the reading of a telephone book sound great. Well, I suspect Mr. Masten could paint a telephone book and make it look good."

Second Place Third Place
Gene St. Pierre
2A5W5782.jpg (340290 bytes)
Natures Colors
digital photo

"...billowing mosses, some apparently whiskered chins and delicate stars of vegetation to contrast with well delineated rock surfaces. Very rich!"

Kelly Milukas
2A5W5787.jpg (406313 bytes)
Dye Market Maroc
pastel

"...the detail of intensely bright hanging yarns is meticulously reproduced. Yet, when seen from a distance, becomes more abstract as a series of diagonals and loops settle into a compositional whole."

Edwin Roche

Indian Canyon
oil on panel

"...captures the sunlit surfaces of massive, yet wind softened forms as shown in the mid-range of the painting. This section commands one’s attention."

Ann Marie Scartabello

Lonely Heart
collage mixed media

"...the textures, colors and patterns provide a rich  surface. The viewer may even indulge in the idea of rearranging the parts as they are so pleasing to the eye and invite one into the game."

Judge's Comments

One exhales a lot when jurying a show.  So many ambitious pieces showing so much thought for the medium.  I want to say “Yes.  I see how heartfelt your effort is".  However, there is always that limit to the number of prizes and then the desire to reward the pieces that push the envelope just a little more.
