Each scholarship winner is invited to exhibit one or two matted or framed (if possible) pieces of artwork, along with a picture of themselves and/or a brief statement, at the Wickford Art Association gallery.  Artwork must be dropped off by Wed., July 8 and will be on display through August 12, 2009.

The Scholarships will be presented at the NK High School’s Honors Night, 7 p.m. on June 9, 2009.

The Wickford Art Festival is one of the main sources of funding for the scholarships.  Consequently, Mark Nascimento, Wickford Art Association President would like to invite scholarship winners and their families to join us in celebrating the kick-off for the Wickford Art Festival by coming to our annual Festival Artist/Sponsor buffet reception on the Friday night before the Wickford Art Festival (July 10, 2009, 5 - 7 p.m.).

Scholarship winners also receive a Wickford Art Association one year associate membership (2009-2010).  The associate membership welcomes recipients to exhibit in our "open" shows and to participate in WAA activities.

Qualifying:

Students interested in applying for the scholarship must:

  • be currently enrolled at the Senior level at North Kingstown High School,
  • be in good standing to graduate high school in the current year,
  • be accepted in an accredited college/university/art school program leading to a Fine Art degree (BA or BFA) for the upcoming academic year,
  • have a portfolio of ten or more original works, which may include painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, mixed media and photography

A copy of an acceptance letter and portfolio should be submitted along with the application before the application deadline, typically in early May.  An applicant's works are judged on the basis of creativity, originality, and quality of execution.  Applications are available (typically in April) at the North Kingstown High School Guidance Office.
